With the release in 1969 of the new ”Hot Wheels” brand of diecast vehicles in the United States; Lesney found that their sales had dropped and something had to be done in response. The answer was to redesign the wheels to be faster and easier rolling in the same vein as ”Hot Wheels”, this redesign was named ”Superfast” and became the replacement for the successful ”Matchbox Series”.
The new redesigned Superfast wheels would soon find their way on to models in other ranges as well,
This series continued for many years before the Superfast name was dropped and the range simply just became ”Matchbox”; as per the ”Matchbox Series” each year had its own range of miniature vehicles which can be viewed in these yearly lists :
