Real Working Rigs : 2009 - 2013

Postby admin » Mon Jul 29, 2013 4:34 am

With reports that the RWR range is coming to an end my latest blog post is a tribute to what I think are really great models.

Oh, my heart is fluttering. Seeing the pictures of the first models really is depressing, as it gets you to recall the memory of when they were first released.

Here's something about Real Working Rigs that really tells you something; you could never picture Hot Wheels making them. Nope, you can't. To me, RWR were the largest river between Matchbox and Hot Wheels, and that fact that they will be no more is utterly disappointing. RWR really spoke as 'Matchbox' to me, with all of the licensed trucks and realistic working parts.

It is more than what I can explain to see them go, yet we have the best ones already in our collection to have forever, a consolation to the news.

After the Farm and Police Mission Force sets currently only found in Kohl's, I think there may be 4 more sets.

I think it is likely to be the end of RWR but what a shame. With the moulds already made, it can't be too difficult to make some more re-colours. The Mission sets in 2014 will have 3 miniatures instead of a RWR and one miniature.

We can but hope!

I can see no reason that Mattel has to stop this great line of cars. As you said, just change the colors and liveries and away you go. How hard can it be to do !!

Using the excuse of slow sellers is totally wrong !! over half of the collectors can't even find them in stores in there areas. Lack of availability to the consumer is the issue , not slow sales.

Make them readily available and they will sell.

The big box stores dropped them, but a grocer here keeps a nice steady supply of them and they sell well. About a case a week. I have found them all there.

I certainly hope they don't end this line.

Nope, they haven't, Bill. For 2013 the line is not cancelled, as they are still found with new liveries exclusively in Mission Force sets. And in 2014, there is a chance for some RWR 2-packs, although I myself doubt that will happen.
