This one was acquired as a rail road flat car load...

... but the all-metal trailer is a bit heavy.

"Guess you'll just have to drive it there, kid."

The trailer body is plastic...

... but the trailer floor of this Ertl rig remains metal. Not exactly a featherweight, but still light enough to make a good flatcar load.

Hi Mike! Good to see you here too!

That Hershey's semi is by Ertl. I don't buy Lionel semis (usually) because the trailers are too fat. They "Lionel-ized" the trailers to make them look a bit less undersized on 0-gauge flat cars. The only one I have is the blue/yellow "American Flyer" rig.

Maybe I'll shoot that one someday. If I can get Bert in front of a camera again.

Farm Equipment? We has it...

Image

This Ertl John Deere semi comes in handy. We have (thanks to the wife-unit) a lot of 1/64 farm equipment, or as Bert calls it "agricultural technology". Most of it is Ertl, with a bit of Scale Models thrown in.

I haven't been able to persuade Bert to pose with much of it yet.

"I'm not supposed to get dirt on my uniform. Agro-Tech is dirty."

Suppose I get the owners to hose them off before showing up?

"Well, maybe."

Sigh.

I believe I have this one, it is an older ERTL model. need to get around to more pics soon I hope.

So the Hershey's was purchased mounted on an S gauge flat car ?? Was it a retail unit or a custom ??

No, the Hershey's truck wasn't purchased with a flat car. I just bought it with that purpose in mind. (Sorry, shoulda wrote "to be a load" instead of "as a load".) It's a regular Ertl release. The trailer turned out to be too heavy to run often, but since I like Hershey's syrup it's not a total loss.

I don't recall where I bought it. It might have been a hobby shop or a toy store, maybe even a train meet. I'm sure it wasn't Ebay.

I have a couple of Hershey trucks you might be interested in, one is an old school tractor trailer tanker, the other is a MB collectible model, will dig them out and send you pics, yes that thru me off, bought as load , not to be used as a load. that's why I figured Lionel, as they DO sell mounted trucks on flat cars, haven't seen ERTL do that, but Ulrich does also

Some later Ertl...

Image

Or at least a newer tractor. The livestock trailer casting (plastic body, metal chassis) has been around for a long time, though not always on these wheels.

Ertl began showing some QC issues during this time. At least one wheel on the trailer is plated poorly. The tractor body has a slight bulge in the hood, looks like somebody was a bit heavy-handed when they crimped the body into its chassis. I'm still glad they came out with this newer tractor. Can't remember the make exactly, but it looks like either White or Volvo.

"Kid, don't you do research anymore?"

Well, I could use some help...

"Told you, I just pose for these shots."
