MDM Customer Appreciation Model 2002?

Postby MStorms2672 » Wed Mar 02, 2016 5:43 pm

Does anyone know anything about this model? I've collected models with the 50th logo for years but this one I've never seen.

Any info on production size or anything would be much appreciated!

Mike

PS I have a pic but it's not letting me post it.

If my recollection is not faulty, this Convoy is a relabelled model or color comp printed model making it a code 2 or 3. The truck and trailer were originally issued in the Toys R Us 50th anniversary gift set circa 1998. The tampa on the side of the cab was wiped and the label on the trailer removed. I thought the new deco on the trailer was tampa printed, but of tbat I am not certain. That trailer deco was not manufactured by Mattel. The truck was either given or sold to customers of Midwest Die Cast Miniatures. It is a handsome piece nonetheless. I recall seeing the piece at several Matchbox conventions around 2002 to 2003 or so.

Chuck,
Thank you very much for the info! I would love to find one somewhere. One was sold on ebay not long and that's where I found out it existed. That's one of two models I know exist that I need to finish my collection. I appreciate the help.

This is a Color Comp model released by MDM (Midwest Diecast Miniatures) an online store for Matchbox Toys. There were only 50 produced and were given (mostly) to the regular customers. Some of them were sold but most of them were giveaways.

smalik,
Thank you for the updated info. This model is on my radar as well as the 'Get on Board' International Armored Car with the 50th Birthday tampo on the side.

If any others pop up that I'm not aware of then they are on the hunt for those too.

Cheers,
Mike
