A springtime 2015 Sky Busters Batch

Postby Chuck Wiersma » Sun Apr 12, 2015 9:33 pm

A new batch of Sky Busters has recently been found. There are nine models in this batch including one new casting.

The new casting is the SB123 MBX Hyper Jet. This Mattel design jet looks like it was inspired by an experimental parasite fighter aircraft from the Cold War era. The XF 85 Goblin comes to mind. The model has a metal upper fuselage and tail with plastic wings and base. Its package number is CGG11. Also, all the models in this release appear to have the H02 base code. The wheels on all the models in this release have been converted to the plastic style struts and wheels.

The wings on the MBX Hyper Jet are decorated with Fightin’ Wolf.

The SB78 Sky Scorcher Helicopter (CGG22) is in blue with grey engines. The model sports flames on the engines and 29 on the tail.

The SB 100 Blade Force helicopter (CGG20) is in red with a light blue plastic base and Blade Force livery. MB47 is printed on the rear landing struts. The front wheel remains the single wheel assembly design as previously issued.

The SB91 Cirrus Vision (CGG21) is in orange with Dingo Island Resort trim. The base and wings are white plastic. This is actually a sharp looking livery.

The SB104 Flight Strike (CGG25) is in a matte black fuselage and turquoise plastic wing/base livery.

The SB96 Eurofighter Typhoon (CGG19) is in a metallic silver fuselage and dark grey wing/base livery sporting a snake head logo? on the wings and tail.

The SB105 Subsonic Interceptor (CGG26) is a bright yellow and black wings/base. The model has flames deco on the wings and body.

The SB90 Lockheed Martin F-35 B Lightning II is in a dark metallic grey fuselage and tail with black plastic wings and tail. The wings are decorated with black, grey and white camouflage.

And finally, the SB76 Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet has a semi glossy tan fuselage and tail and a brown plastic base and wings. The wings sport a yellow and black checkerboard stripe with TM-32.

The back of the package lists 8 models in this batch. I found seven of the eight models - not finding a new Gee Bee. Perhaps the Gee Bee is just a holdover from a previous batch. Anyway, I also found the Super Hornet and Subsonic Interceptor in this batch and they were not listed on the card. So, 9 new models for this batch.

These models were found at a Marc’s store in Northeast Ohio (USA) for $2.49 to $2.99 US each. The Expect Discount chain of stores in Connecticut (USA) usually have the same product as the Ohio based Marc’s store chain.

The Hyper Jet is an interesting design. It looks like a flying bomb.
