Ambassador’s Report December 22nd, 2014
By: Larry Scaduto
INTRODUCTION
Well….this is my last report of 2014. I’m glad I was able to squeeze one more in before the holidays. I have a nice selection of 2015 releases for this issue and I also have another Supreme Heroes model to preview as well. My PrePro’s section has a red and green theme for the holiday season. Hope you like the models pictured. Plus, I’ve just added Batch P. All images and articles are presented here with the consent and permission of Mattel and the Matchbox Team. I would like to wish everyone out there reading my reports a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!! Happy Holiday’s and Thank You. Best Regards, Larry (ambassador #10)

First model is the MB968 Bay Brigade 1st Edition Basic Core release

Next item under the tree is the MB802 Caterham R-500 in a stunning black & green color combination. This in my opinion is the best it has ever looked and it is a 9/10 Pack exclusive.

Here we have 3 Basic Core Models, first the MB937 Urban Tow Truck
Image
And second is the MB894 Turn Tamer
Image
……and lastly the MB634 Ford GT40 (Nice to this one back in the lineup)

And I haven’t forgotten the Sky Buster Collector’s…. here is the SB107 Sky Scorcher

Here is a picture of the actual Aurora Fire Truck. The town of Aurora is just about 20 miles from my home. Nice to see local representation in the Supreme Heroes Series!!

MATCHBOX QUESTIONS

Will the MB809 Infiniti Coupe be used in 2015? No, but it will be included in the 2016 line.
BMW has a 100 Year Anniversary coming in 2016. Does Matchbox have plans to celebrate this milestone? This is something we can consider. Thanks for the information.
Many luxury automakers are looking into making SUV's for the future (Bentley, Jaguar, Maserati, & Aston Martin) Does the team have any plans to look into any new luxury SUV’s for the line? We are always looking at potential models such as these.
When will you announce what the new secret European model for 2015 will be? We can announce this now. It will be the Jaguar F-type Coupe.
Will we see more heritage classics for 2015 compared to 2014? Yes we are adding a few more.
Why was there a name revision on the BMW 1M? It was changed to BMW M1 at the licensors request.

MISCELLANEOUS

In this week’s misc. section I’m featuring the Matchbox displays of John F. Falk. Here’s a little something about how he obtained some of his models…. I got 119 very fine condition matchbox cars in 2 cases about 5 summers ago. 200 bucks later and they were mine. Since then I have increased my collection by leaps and bounds. In the one picture I have a framed project using images from catalogues. I trade with a guy in England and that is one way I have increased and gotten quite a few castings. I love your site. I get so much great info. Thanks for all you do for this hobby. Thanks. John F. Falk (Ambassador’s Note: Thank you for the compliment along with your story and pictures of your collection)

Re: Ambassador's Report December 22nd 2014

Postby David Tilley » Tue Dec 23, 2014 11:28 am

As this was such a good report I didn't want to wait to get it up on the internet. There are some really cool things here. First of all, that Ford GT40. Wow! That is a beauty! I can't wait to get that one next year. It is such a shame it followed the Turn Tamer in the pictures. The tow truck looks decent in that livery. The boat seems unusual in that they made the top out of metal and the base out of plastic. That just seems too weird to me. It makes it really top heavy. I really don't understand why they didn't do it the normal way around. It would have looked so much better. I am not a fan of boats though. So at the end of the day I am not really that bothered.

Did I ever say that I don't like fire thingies? Even ones dressed up with real liveries on real wheels. Still don't like them. This is making me even less inclined to worry about Supreme Heroes (which does save me money).

So the news is finally out. We get the Jag F-type Coupe next year. It is great that it is the coupe version as with the Aston convertible there is only so many droptops we can have. I am really looking forward to that. But who asked the question about the BMW M1/1M thing? If oyu had read previous Ambassador reports, when they showed the blue one in a sneak peek they told us then that BMW had requested they change it around. It was pretty common knowledge. I hope they take the BMW 100 year anniversary and luxury SUV questions seriously. Now I have heard about them, I would love to see something donoe about them. Just imagine a BMW 5-pack? The 5-series Police, 1M/M1 (whatever you want to call it), 2 bikes and an older casting (X5, Z8 or Z4, or perhaps something even older if the molds are still good) for the 100th Anniversary. I would definitely go for it.

I like the prepros, although I thought the Iso was a Brazilian issue. I have seen that look before as a Brazilian model. I do own the Ferrari and Matra myself, but not that Supra. I did not realize just how that rear end looks on it. Although I see it has the gaping hole in the roof that was well known in preproduction stages (like the Mazda RX7 rear license plate fault).

I never saw that launcher in stores. I only ever saw it in the catalogs. I think you should have a go with it and launch a bunch of vehicles off.

Now I do like that VW Atacama. I did not know it existed until now, but already think that it would make a great Matchbox. The Hyundai too. And the Fiesta! I have always wanted a Matchbox Fiesta. I don't care if other manufacturers make it in miniature. I just want Matchbox to make one so I can finally have one for my collection. Growing up, one of the friends in the street had a father who owned a Mk 1 Fiesta in sky blue. I used to love it. So this has been a rather lifelong dream to have a Matchbox Fiesta of some sort. It doesn't have to be a Mk 1, as any Fiesta will do. It just needs to be a Fiesta. A real road-going Fiesta!

I've had that Iso for soooooooo many years, I've never known it to be a Brazilian issue, but you may be right. It's the type of model they would have done with a label from a different casting. There was no surprise you didn't like the Pierce, but I must admit it does look descent this time. It will be a nice addition to the Supreme Heroes series. Thank you for posting this on this website. I appreciate you taking the time to do this for me and of coarse the collectors!!! Happy Holiday to you and everyone else.

Very disappointed with the question and answer session, the arrogance has disappeared out of the replies and no parody.

Thank you David for posting this, I just logged in to do it myself and discovered you have beaten me to it. Thanks. :10:

As for the report, great news on the Jag, cant wait to see that one.

The boat is upside down, you're right the metal should be the base. The Caterham looks great and as generics go the tow truck looks good in that design as well. The GT always seems to look good so no surprises there, but hen another look at another member of the supreme heroes range, those wheels are atrocious. I am not sure they will look good on a sports model but they certainly dont suit a fire engine.
I think I will be saving a bit more money and not getting this range.

That's okay. I had a spare few minutes (well maybe an hour, so many pictures) to get it up this time. Normally it is pretty busy at work, but this week has been a lot quieter for some reason. I think it will be really quiet Thursday and Friday as I will be at work all on my own.

But anyway, although I am really happy to see the Jag in the line-up I have just realized something else. This will actually be the debut of the classic MB634 Ford GT in the basic range. In 2005 the modern MB671 Ford GT debuted, and was seen in 2006, 2007 (twice), 2009, 2010 and 2012. But the classic Ford GT was never used in the basic range. It only saw uses in the Superfast range, Best of British and Stars of Cars. So although this will not be a new model, it will be another basic range debut model. It is nice seeing them finally put this model in there.

For those trying to remember the differences between the classic and modern Ford GTs, the easiest way to remember was that the classic never had wing mirrors.

:) :D :P

Cheers for posting this DT and to Larry for getting a report out so close to xmas.
Firstly the good. :) I'm really excited to see the Jag F-Type is going to be in the line up next year. Fingers crossed MBX do a good job of it and I'd be stoked if the headlights were part of the window like on most modern Majorettes. Also very happy to see the classic GT40 in the mainline and it looks great in yellow with near on perfect looking tampos. And finally it'll be great to see the Infiniti Coupe back in the line in 2016.
Now the bad. Those wheels on the Supreme Hero fire engine look terrible, completely out of place.
MAJORETTE..... this is how a 3inch diecast vehicle is made Mattel!

Thanks Larry for the report, and David for posting.

I asked the first five questions. I did not ask about the change from 1M/M1, and I agree that is a dull question. But boy, am I glad I asked what questions I did!

We now know the Infiniti will be back in the 2016 line which is superb news. I also am glad to remind the team about BMW's 100 year anniversary. I am sure they know about it but it can't hurt to remind them that something special should be done to commemorate this (Hot Wheels has better not steal this show).

But the best news of all is the addition of the 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe! Yipeee!!!! What a fantastic new model to round off the list for 2015. I have admired the F-Type for a while. It is a hell of a pretty cat, and seeing it on Top Gear numerous times only makes me like it that much more. Plus, have you heard the exhaust note? Pure heaven.

This is the first modern Jaguar since the XK, and is the perfect choice. I am also glad the Coupe was chosen over the convertible as it looks so much nicer in person, and often times convertible Matchboxes don't look right. I guess someone is watching out for us. In fact, in that post where I asked 'What's one model you wish for in 2015?' I picked the Tesla Model S, but I also said in that same post 'it was a fight between this and the F-Type'. Who would have guessed both of my wishes would come true?! :)

The Ford GT40 is beautiful. I hope we see more classics like this. I love the color and the details are very realistic.

The Caterham is nice, as is the Urban Tow Truck. I notice it has some new plastic parts, but it now has an interior which is nice.

The new Rescue Boat is actually pretty attractive. It does look odd with the metal on top, but at least there is a believable design and some metal at all!

I am actually quite surprised that they have already stated the Infiniti will be in the 2016 range. I didn't think they would be that far ahead yet. That was a good question on the BMWs. I did not know next year would be their 100th Anniversary. I hope it doesn't end up as a Hot Wheels thing. I do not care if both do it, but would not be happy if it was ignored by Matchbox and embraced by Hot Wheels. Both brands have BMW castings in their mix so both should have an equal opportunity to do something about it. I wouldn't begrudge them that. I was actually going to put in a question about the 2015 secret model in my next bunch of questions for Larry to ask, as I have been wanting to know what it was. I am happy about the Jag. It is about time we had a new Jag in the mix again.

Re the MB968 Bay Brigade

Looks good but whether it sells time will tell. I do not see many other brands selling boats/water craft at around $2$3

Is the hull /base also metal?

Mbx boats/watercraft of previous years such as

Sea rescue boat
WhiteWater raft
Sea speeder
Tower boat
Sea spy
Air boat
Ski boat
Jet ski all have metal base/hull.

Would like to see a new Cabin cruiser style boat as a sort of update to the old MB9!

Cheers,J
