A very interesting report on the 'what could have been' Matchbox models. Especially that Helicopter Transporter that had even been planned all the way up to the base lettering being displayed on the blue prints. Wonder if there is a resin model somewhere in the world. Thanks for this. :D

Not liking the modern stuff as per the norm. Olds is nice and that's it.

Cheers Larry for writing and to Brad for posting.
Am really happy to see the Vista Cruiser returning as it's one of my favourites. The rest I'll be leaving on the pegs.
MAJORETTE..... this is how a 3inch diecast vehicle is made Mattel!

First of all, can I just say WOW for the Chuck piece. I really REALLY enjoyed that one on the unreleased stuff. Obviously there are loads more (the proposed Princess in the 1970s, the Ford Escort Mk III before they changed to an XR3i Convertible in the 1980s, Black Beauty in the 1990s, the Cement Mixer with 3 axles in the 2000s, oh the list goes on). But I really love stuff like that. The what could have been....

Anyway, there was new stuff too. I have to admit I am really surprised and happy to see the Vista Cruiser again in yellow with the woodgrain sides. I am a big fan of that casting and am so happy they haven't given up on it yet. I also am a big fan of the Scrambulance (yeah I know I am one of only 6 in the world but hey) and really like the new livery on it. The Ground Grinder doesn't really strike me in that dull scheme, although I do smile at the 4992 bit. I have to wonder whether Michael has been keeping tabs since day 1, or whether due to him retiring soon he has been through and counted them all up recently to discover just where he was. I may have to ask him at the Gathering.

I may need to go to Larry's house to see his prepro collection. I am a huge fan of prepros, but I don't think I have anywhere near the amount Larry has. Or Chuck for that matter.

Finally, all the "stuff we want made" doesn't apply to me this time. I don't want concepts. Matchbox has pretty much steered clear of concepts for a decade now and that makes me happy. If they can move away from boats and planes and weird things I am not sure what they are, I will be very happy. Rumble Raider? Terrainiac? I don't know what they are, and I am sure kids know even less about them. This is why they peg warm.

:) :D :P

David. I didn't know about the Princess in the 70's. Where did you find that out? :D

It was eBay of all places. The person who worked at Lesney in the 1970s sold off some of his master original mockup molds a while back. Among them were a slightly different version of the Tractor Shovel as it was originally planned with lights on the roof, and the Princess which was mocked up but later vetoed in the board room.

:) :D :P

Damn, I would've like to have seen the Princess made. We had friends who had one when I was growing up.

Thanks David. I find out more every day about this company and what would have been.

Thanks Brad for posting and Larry for the report.

The Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser looks fantastic as it follows the general style from the 2009 and 2010 range, which is nice to see. The wood grain tampoes are well done, the yellow is an attractive color, the base is chrome, the interior is tan, and there are clear windows. There is nothing to complain about, except that I believe this is a 9-pack model. I'll have to wait to see if it is worth $10.

Blegh to the Scrambulance. Nice livery but the model does not do it for me.

The Ground Grinder looks very nice and I like the cue to Heralda's design. 4,992 is a lot of models and I am excited to see what his 5,000 design is.

Chuck's piece was really enjoyable, much better than what Mattel had to show! I love the behind the scenes look of things, especially involving pieces that never made it to the shelf. Thanks for including that writeup Larry and Chuck for writing it.

I am not one to hope to see a concept car as a Matchbox again. Production cars are great, but concepts have no merit in the brand. And I spy part of a Mack CF (but those of you who are diligent have already seen the entire model... ;) )
