Matchbox The Dinky Collection

Postby michaelkirk » Sat Jan 21, 2017 12:30 pm

I am missing 6 models from this range : DY 13 Bentley R (Dark blue USA)
DY 16 Ford Mustang (Black Ford 40th anniversary)
DY 27 Chevrolet (Brown seats)
DY 30 Austin Healey (Blue)
DY 32 Citroen 2CV (Blue)
DY 36 Jaguar XK 150 (Blue)
I cannot find these anywhere - do they exist !? They are all listed in the 2016 Model Price Guide. Is there a more reliable listing of this range ?
Grateful for any suggestions !

Hello micheal,

The Ford Mustang (Black Ford 40th anniversary) does exist but was not released under the Dinky name, see
See:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Matchbox-Collec ... 1665097001

DY 27 Chevrolet (Brown seats) This was always a rare model but does exist and is cheaper nowerdays then it was in the heydays.
Recently this one was sold on Ebay:

http://www.ebay.ie/itm/DINKY-DY27-1957- ... Swux5YMZYm

DY 30 Austin Healey (Blue) was part of a 3 piece set and can be seen here:

http://www.ebay.com/p/Matchbox-Dinky-Dy ... 1849027943

DY 32 Citroen 2CV (Blue) As far as I know this does not exist. The MICA club made a code-2 model in 2 tone blue.

DY 36 Jaguar XK 150 (Blue) A later release which is not that easy to find nowerdays.
You can see the model here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DINKY-DELUXE-JA ... Sw241YgXkQ

Hope this helps.

Michel,
Very many thanks for your helpful reply. You didn't mention the Bentley R type (blue USA) ?

Sorry forgot that one.
There are 2 different (not for USA but worldwide release) It is standard model which should be easy to find.

1st issue was this metallic blue. (very nice model)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/44FP-1-43-SCALE ... SwdzVXn2hA

and later on this dark blue model was released.

Marcel,
Very many thanks again - presumably the Model Price Guide has got it wrong; they list three model Bentleys, the last of which says ''dark blue USA". So sorry to get your name wrong last time !

Re the DY-32 Citroen in blue, are you thinking of the 2006(?) issue, the same series as the blue DY-36 Jaguar XK150? This is a pale blue-grey, paler than the original release, and looks pale blue in some lights. (My memory was that it WAS blue but having found mine it does now look more like a pale grey). At the risk of telling you what you already know, it was part of a set of four models issued when Mattel had lost the plot completely with regard to collectors' models, they all had ridiculously over-sized and un-openable packaging, and really naff standard wheels that (I think) were supposed to resemble the spun aluminium ones used by Dinky Toys in the 1960s. As well as the Citroen and Jaguar there was a DY25 Porsche in red and a Mercedes Gullwing in silver, which was numbered DY-33 but was actually the DY-12 casting; DY-33 being the convertible that as far as I know was only ever issued in a dark indigo-blue around 1995. Both the latter were virtually identical to those issued nailed to a plank in the European Sports Cars set, apart from the naff wheels, and were virtually impossible to get, in the UK at least, so were ignored by all but the most dedicated collectors. As to where you can find one now, I'd guess the best thing is to keep on looking at ebay, or perhaps, due to their non-success at the time, someone has a case full of them somewhere out there.....

A later Bentley was anounched but never released.
In 2006 only the 1st four models of this list were released.
A little later came a darker grey Mercedes for the Leipzig Toy fair.
