Matchbox Oshkosh M-ATV

Postby Cpl Overby » Sun May 04, 2014 11:13 am

THis is my take on the M-ATV.
This is the Matchbox Oshkosh M-ATV
I started on this by burring out the rivets, and "popping" it apart.
I then gave it a bath in Paint stripper,
(the thick orange paint came off quite easily)
I then cut off the thin spare tire, threw away the wheels,
replacing all five with my resin casts.
I then gave all the parts a good coat of Krylon "Sand",
followed by two coats of Vallejo Wash "European Dust Effect".
Then dry-brushing it with Vallejo Desert Yellow,
and topping it off with a light spritz along the wheel base
with Krylon Khaki to simulate road dust.
I am not pleased at all with the gun turret, so in my next version ...
I will cut it off, and scratch build a proper one.

Love the look and the dirty feel to it from that excellent paint job, but by far the stand out change is those awesome wheels :10:

Thanks so much,
I have found that changing the wheels makes a world of difference on these. :D
But I learned that the wheel rims are wrong here,
so on the next one, I'll change those out for different ones.

Is it mainly military you do? Because Matchbox have plenty of constructions vehicles that are desperate for your fettling.

Yep I'm afraid so, if it even looks like it "might" be military I'll give it a try.
Right now I am working on something called the Rumble Raider.
What sort of things do you think would benefit from my work?
Construction Vehicles?
Do you have an example?

Making another BIG improvement on the M-ATV.......
I sawed off the "molded on " turret and gun shield, sanded and filed the roof.
Burred a new turret ring in the roof.
and then I built up the bottom of the cut away turret, gave it a floor.
Mounted a .50 cal,
then added the front Gun Shield.
when this is all done,
i will mold and cast as a resin 15 mm Gaming Piece.

Now I just have to "scratch out a hatch"
